Democrats picked up one Green Bay-area Assembly seat and held onto another in Tuesday's election, part of a statewide night in which the party flipped control of the Assembly.
In the 88th District, which covers De Pere, Allouez, Bellevue and part of Green Bay, De Pere School Board treasurer Brandy Tollefson led first-term Republican Rep. Ben Franklin 54.3 percent to 45.7 percent, with 99 percent of votes counted, according to the Associated Press.
Tollefson thanked the district's voters in a social media post after the result and said she would work to be the leader the district deserves. A WisPolitics review put spending by Tollefson and Democratic groups at $1.1 million, compared with $2.1 million by Franklin and Republican groups.
In the neighboring 89th District, first-term Democratic Rep. Ryan Spaude of Ashwaubenon defeated Republican Bobby Lindsey, a retired police officer and Marine Corps veteran. The AP called the race for Spaude at 10:55 p.m., with Spaude leading 56.5 percent to 43.5 percent with 99 percent of votes counted.
Results are unofficial until they are canvassed.
