Door County voters elected a new sheriff and a new clerk of circuit court in the Nov. 3 general election, while school referendums in two districts went opposite ways.

Republican Curt Vandertie will be the county's new sheriff after defeating incumbent Democrat Tammy Sternard and independent Randy Wagner. Vandertie won 48.4 percent of the vote, compared with 43.2 percent for Sternard and 8.4 percent for Wagner.

Democrat Shannon Lauder won the race for clerk of circuit court, defeating Republican Rebecca Rericha 55.4 percent to 44.6 percent.

In the Sturgeon Bay School District, voters approved an operational referendum allowing the district to exceed state revenue limits by $3.75 million a year for five years, 57.1 percent to 42.9 percent. The money covers recurring operating expenses such as salaries and supplies, not construction.

In the Southern Door School District, voters rejected a $2.06 million-a-year operational increase for three years by 100 votes, 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent. It was the district's second failed referendum this year.

Turnout in Door County was 17,767 voters, up from 17,441 in the 2022 midterm election. Results are unofficial until canvassed.
