Ethics & Sourcing

We rewrite every story in our own words. We report facts from local news outlets and public sources, credit the original reporting on every story, and never copy another outlet’s text or photos.

On crime coverage, we distinguish clearly between an arrest or booking and a conviction. An arrest is an allegation, not a finding of guilt, and we say so.

Information that comes from dispatch or scanner traffic is unconfirmed by definition. When we use it, we label it as unconfirmed, and we update or correct the story as confirmed information becomes available.
