Six people died Tuesday night when a small plane crashed in Sauk County, according to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.

Dispatchers received multiple reports around 9:30 p.m. of an aircraft down in a densely wooded area in the town of Dellona, outside Mirror Lake State Park. Emergency crews located the wreckage north of Park Lane and west of Herwig Road.

All six occupants, five adults and one child, were found dead at the scene. No damage to structures and no injuries to anyone on the ground were reported.

The aircraft was a fixed-wing Piper on a return trip from Kenosha to Menomonie. It had left Kenosha Regional Airport shortly before 9 p.m. and had been in contact with a nearby air traffic control tower before the crash.

Names are being withheld pending family notification. The scene remains secured, and the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will assist in investigating the cause, including the final tower communications and whether weather was a factor.
